another case of mistreatment of blacks by police. more demonstrations are expected later this week. craig boswell has our report. >> reporter: freddie grey's family was joined by protesters. some overcome with emotion. they're looking into the questions of gray's death. he was arrested after he and another man ran from officers. gray was seen being carried into a van by a video. another video also obtained by wjz shows officers removing gray from the van to shackle his legs at a stop during the drive to the western district. at the end of the ride an ailing gray was rushed to the hospital

where he died sunday. autopsy results say the cause of death was a severe spine injury. police say they don't know what happened. demonstrators say they will take their case to baltimore's mayor on thursday with a rally at city hall. organizer jamaal bryant wants the six officers involved to face charges. >> i want murder charges for all of them because there was no history or record of him having a spinal injury. all police officers can't say what happened. the mayor has acknowledged in the press that he called for immediate medical attention and nobody gave it to him. >> reporter: the protesters say the demonstrations are only a beginning. this is not an event, they say. it's a movement. craig boswell, cbs news baltimore. the tult sa volunteer sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a suspect after he says he miss tangly mistook his hand gun for a taser is headed.

the judge agreed to allow him to take the previously planned vacation. harris's prosecutors began laying out their case for executing dzhokhar tsarnaev including photos of him after the deadly attack. >> this is dzhokhar tsarnaev the prosecutor said as she showed a photo of him making a crude gesture to the jailhouse camera. she called him unconcerned, unrepen tanlt, and unchanged as the government began the execution process of the 21-year-old. haunting screams pierced the chaos in cell phone video in the moments after the boston marathon bombings. it was shown to the jury in the first days of the penalty phase as agillian reny recalls it.

production. some state lawmakers are calling for a moratorium for 16 counties. president obama nominated lynch last fall to replace eric holder but senate majority leader mitch mcconnell held it up because of abortion language. that dispute has apparently been settled. a vote on the trafficking bill is expected today. the head of the drug enforcement administration is stepping down. michelle lenhardt. she'll leave the agency next month. the largest bird flu outbreak is affecting poultry. don champion has more on efforts to stop the spread. >> reporter: the federal government is now working on a possible vaccine to fight the

largest outbreak of bird flu in the country in 30 years. this news comes as additional cases of h 5 n 2 were confirmed at turkey farms in south dakota tuesday prompting poultry producers to test their flocks. >> they'll call on it in the morning, evening, and night. it's really important to figure out what is ooh going on with their farms before they move the animals. >> reporter: more than 200 turkeys in minnesota have been affected. lawmakers there approved $900,000 in emergency funding to contain the outbreak. so far the largest single outbreak of the flu has been in this farm in osceola county farm, iowa. farmers have started euthanizing them. the strain can kill a flock of birds in 48 hours but it has little effect on humans. >> that would not be a concern for someone eating an egg. >> others are more concerned about the economic impact. >> you're going to have a reduction in supply.

if you have a reduction in supply you're going to have an effect on the price. >> reporter: since march. it's cost turkey and chicken producers more than 6.7 million birds. in all cases have been reported in 13 states. when it comes to the vaccine, it's in the works. they're working on a strain. they'll begin testing on animals next month. experts say migrating birds may be spreading the bacteria with their droppings. japanese authorities are investigating how a drone ended upton roof of the prime minister's office. the aircraft was discovered this morning. the prime minister was out of the country and no damage was reported. there are unconfirmed reports that traces of a radioactive material were found on the drone. coming up on the "morning news," low cost cancer test. it makes it more easier for women to be screened for breast and ovarian cannes jeer rocky ride. thousands of crew passengers are

motrin liquid gels. a powerful and deadly storm is battling australia for a third day. a massive 50-foot wave on the east coast set a new record. the storm has done more than a foot of rain in some areas triggering widespread flooding and damage. three people drowned in their homes north of sydney. emergency crews are making highwater rescues. the storm trapped more than 2,000 passengers on a cruise ship off of sydney. video recorded on board showed huge waves pounding the ship. the heavy surf had closed parts of sydney harbour. passengers described their fear and damage on the ship. >> upstairs on the make deck a lot of the glass had been pushed out and smashed all over the place. chairs just turned like lollipops. .

it was just crazy. >> passengered were kept calm. after a two-day wait the ship was finally guided into port early today. a silicon valley startup has given a new low cost way for women to be screened for breast and ovarian cancer, but the inexpensive test raises questions about the patient's ability to interpret the results. dr. jon lapook reports. he is the co-founder of a company now offering testing for those two gene us plus 17 others for only $249. >> what we've tried to do really is democratize access to this genetic information around genetic breast and cancer risks and do it in a responsible way. >> reporter: a woman with a brc 1 mutation has a 55% to 65% chance of developing breast cancer by the age of 70. the test must be ordered by a figz physician, either by the

woman's own doctor or one provided by the company. >> we don't provide any sort of specific medical advice. our focus is to get the information to the woman. >> reporter: color genomics says it has achieved the low price through improved lab and software education provided to the public. the test done on saliva done at home is not covered by insurance. known genetic mutations account for only 10% to 15% of breast and ovarian cancers. oncologist dr. jennifer litton of md cancer center says it's key. >> i would be concern if someone determined as negative result as being no risk especially if they come from a family that has a lot of different cancers or a lot of young onsets of cancers. a little more than a year ago it was $100,000. now it's approaching $1,000. but a huge challenge remains. how best to interpret all that information.

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. new york city is marking earth day with an ambitious environmental goal. the city plans to reduce its waste by 90% over the next 15 years. mayor bill de blasio will unveil the initiative today. it overhauls recycling and gives residents incentive to reduce what it throws out. they pay $350 million a year exporting its garbage. on the "cbs moneywatch," exploring drone mail delivery, and ben affleck makes an apology. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> good morning, alison. today comcast and time warner executives are scheduled to meet

with the justice department to try to salvage a merger between the this country's largest cable and internet providers. comcast planned a $45 billion purchase of time warner was announced 14 months ago. the combined company would control 57% of the high-speed internet market. critics worry the combined company would wield too much control. yesterday six liberal senators urged the fcc to block the deal. the postal service has narrowed down the company's bidding to build its next generation of delivery trucks. one company is offering a truck that doubles as a drone lawn cher. the horsefly drone weighs about 15 pounds and can carry a ten-pound package. stocks on wall street finished lower following mixed earnings. the dow lost 58 points. the s&p finished 3 points lower,

but the nasdaq gained 19 points. there have been charges filed against a british trader. there was the flash crash. on may 6, 2010, the dow lost 600 points in matter of minutes, down nearly 1,000 points for the day before recovering. prosecutors say navinder singh sarao flooded the market with speculative trade orders. the u.s. has requested his extradition. google is expected to launch its own services. it's expected to allow customers to pay only for the data they use. it would also allow users to route calls through wi-fi, reducing the costs. and actor ben affleck expressed regret asking producers of "finding your roots" to leave out a slave owning ancestor. in a facebook post last night, affleck wrote, quote i didn't want any show about my family to

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. the nfl is one step closer to returning to los angeles. the city council in carson, california voted unanimously last night to approve plans for a $1.7 billion stadium.

the decision was cheered by l.a.-based fans of the san diego changes and oakland raiders. both teams have expressed interest in occupying the stadium. no nfl team has calls los angeles home in 20 years. meanwhile the nfl's 2015 schedule is out. the defending super bowl champion new england patriots will kick off the season against the pittsburgh steelers on thursday, september 10th. one week later we'll have the first of cbs's eight thursday night games. the denver broncos take on the kansas city chiefs, and cbs is also the home of super bowl 50 next february. and in the nba playoffs they cavaliers head to boston with a 2-0 lead. he shows off his passing skills hitting love for a half court ally-oop in the second half. the cavs beat the celtics, 99-91. houston rockets' player dunks he dunks it. passes them. 111-99.

howard finishes with 28 points and houston takes a 2-0 series lead over dallas. in the nhl playoffs the marathon game between chicago and nashville, the blackhawks tied the game up at 2-2 late in the period. the two teams would play late into the night and into the wee hours of the morning, and in triple overtime chicago's brent seabrook ends it on the game's 100th shot. >> what were your coaches and players talking about in between the overtime periods? >> it was 1:15 in the morning. i think most of the guys were trying to stay awake. the blackhawks win 3-2 and take a 2-1 series lead. and the new york mets are babel's hottest team. curtis granderson drives in four runs as new york tops atlanta, 7-1. that makes it nine wins in a row for the mets. >> from the baseball diamond to a perfect diamond, a massive 100-carat white stone sold for more than $22 million at

before her death last spring author and poet maya angelou was working on a new project. it was one that put her words to music. michelle miller has more on the collaborations across generations. >> reporter: on the rooftop of a high-rise in downtown los angeles, dancers are moving to a hip-hop beat and the poetry of miya angelou. it's a music video called harlem hopscotch inspired by a poem she wrote back in 1969. >> she literally changed my life before i even met her. >> reporter: music producer sean rivera discovered angelou's

writing several years ago at the time he was suffering severe depression. >> i was questioning whether i should be living on this planet. i was living in a storage unit like on top of a studio in a movie warehouse. i came across this book and started reading it, and it just clicked for me. i thought, wait a minute. >> reporter: he thought it would click for a new generation, too, taking angelou's theme of isolation and inequality, he began writing music before he was able to meet angelou and get her blessing. what did she say? >> the first thing she said was thank you, which blew my mind, and she said, i think i can do even better. i want to be involved in the project. i was blown away. >> touchdown. >> yeah. >> reporter: in this home video she was asked about the notion of setting her poetry to rap. >> young people are more sophisticated, a little more sarcastic, a little more edgy. i need something a little more edgy.
